1. Visa and Passport:
We do not deal with visa/passport enquiries. Therefore it is not possible to book appointments for these services and we will not reply to any visa related enquiries. Please go to for further information.

2. Notarial and Documentary Services (NaDS)

a. We provide limited NaDS by appointment. In order to modernise the delivery of our services and help free up resources so that we can focus on providing assistance to customers who need our help most, not all services on the Consular Fee Table are available at British Consular offices. Our Consular Staff will be able to tell you which services they are able to offer or signpost you to alternative service providers.

b. With effect from 1 April 2014 NaDS that can be performed by an alternative provider will no longer be offered by the British Consular offices in Turkey. All NaDS which will continue to be offered will be centralised at the Consular Section of the British Consulate-General in Istanbul. The British Embassy, Consulate, Vice Consulate and Honorary Consulates in other areas of Turkey will stop issuing Notarial and Documentary Services. You will no longer be able to make an appointment for these services at posts other than Istanbul.

c. You may want to call upon the British Chamber of Commerce Turkey ( to verify whether the chamber can assist and provide the service you may require.

3. DWP/Life Certificates. It is no longer necessary to visit the British Consulates for witness of a Life Certificate on behalf of the Department for Work & Pensions. Please check for a list of recognised professionals who can witness Life Certificates. British Consulates do not now provide this service.

4. Marriage Deposit:
From 1 January 2014 the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has discontinued its service of depositing foreign marriage and civil partnership certificates with the General Register Offices in the UK.

British nationals overseas will need to make their own arrangements for the safekeeping of these certificates, as they do for other important documents. Please visit our website for more information on the services we provide.

Additional Information for Customers Marrying in Turkey
From 1 March 2014 Turkish Marriage offices will accept an Affidavit/Affirmation sworn before a UK Public Notary or Commissioner of Oaths or British Embassy/consulate in Turkey depending on your residency status. The British Embassy/Consulates in Turkey stoped issuing Certificate of Non Impediments in Turkish.

If you are resident in the UK;
You need to complete the bilingual Affidavit/Affirmation form and have your oath/affirmation administered by a local Public Notary in the UK and legalised by Foreign Commonwealth Office Legalisation Department before travelling to Turkey. Then you will submit this document to local Marriage Office in the town where you are going to get married. Please send an email to to receive an Affidavit/Affirmation form.

If you are resident in Turkey;
You need to complete the bilingual Affidavit/Affirmation form. You can then book an appointment at the British Embassy Ankara or consulates in Istanbul, Izmir or Antalya for administering your oath/affirmation. Your document must be legalised by the Turkish Authorities, either by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara or the Governor in Istanbul, Izmir, or Antalya. When you call at the Consulate or Embassy, staff will explain where to go and what to do. Once your document is legalised you will submit it to the local Marriage Office in the town where you are going to get married.

You should expect your belongings to be checked, and you will have to leave your telephone with the Security Officer. Please do not bring laptops or other electronic devices. Please arrive in advance of your appointment.

All documents provided must be originals. Also, you must produce a valid passport or Turkish ID card.
